SQUID HOUSEPLANTS

It's safe to say that Squid blew as away last year with their frankly ridiculous Speedy Wunderground single 'The Dial'. With expectations riding high, we were thrilled to discover that the experimental quintet's newest offering 'Houseplants' is equally exhilarating. Driven by the band's favoured motorik drumming style and a brilliant ascending bass line, angular guitars meet surreal synth parts before multi-instrumentalist Laurie's much-welcomed trumpet parts join the mix and the whole track takes an unexpected jazzy turn. It's almost 4 minutes before drummer/vocalist Ollie completely explodes, ranting furiously like an enraged David Byrne, making a little nod to Talking Head's iconic 'Once In A Lifetime' before reeling off a super-condensed host of modern-day struggles.
